What Options are on Offer?
Production: A Wayne in a Manger by Gervase Phinn
Performances Wed 11th - Sat 14th January 2017 (5 Shows) The Crescent Studio Theatre
‘For anyone who has ever attended an infant nativity play and cried silent tears – of laughter’. Daily Express
Welcome to the World Premiere of the Top Ten Bestseller - the perfect ‘Christmas’ treat from one of the nation’s most loved storytellers.
Every teacher has a story to tell about the Christmas Nativity play: the Innkeeper who when asked if there was any room at the inn, answered ‘plenty’ and ushered the startled Holy Family inside; the occasion when Mary dropped Baby Jesus, bursting into tears as the large pink doll rolled off the stage; the time that the Angel Gabriel informed Mary that he had tidings of great joy to bring, but had completely forgotten what they were, and the memorable moment the giant cardboard star suspended on a wire above the stage fell on Joseph, who rubbed his head and exclaimed ‘Bloody ‘ell!’
Suitable for absolutely all ages both to be in and to watch, this production will be fast-moving, colourful, and absolutely hilarious.
Offstage: Work Experience
Practical tasks to give you a taster into the different areas of running a theatre company (especially a Youth Theatre!). Each week the group will undertake something completely different such as sorting the photo archive, filming sessions/collecting vox pops, cataloguing costumes, collating feedback and dressing Reception for the Sharings etc. This will be a small group for anyone who wishes to stay for the whole day but cannot make the show. It doesn’t matter how old you are or how much experience you have – you just need enthusiasm and energy. If you discover an area of particular personal interest we will discuss with you how to take it further, both internally and externally! Anyone attending every week of term will get a testimonial about their work.
General Drama: Hone Your Skills
This term we are focusing on specific, identifiable skills that will help you in school, in your GCSEs and A Levels, with LAMDA Exams and in interviews and auditions. It will generate excellent additions for CVs and Personal Statements for any future course or career, and give you skills to discuss with confidence and pride. Each week will be feature a different skill including the more familiar Improvisation, Characterisation and Physicality, alongside Team Building, Ensemble Work and Interview Technique/Presentation skills. The group will be relaxed and informal but we will expect dynamism and focus to allow members to develop new skills or build on existing ones.
There will be a Sharing at the end of term to show the rest of the company, friends and family what we have learnt. Every week will be completely self-contained so if you can’t commit to many weeks then this is the option for you.
This is a friendly group, where members mix, learn and have lots of fun in a secure environment with other enthusiastic and willing members. Members participate in fun games, drama exercises and creative play every Saturday afternoon.
Everyone aged 7-10 is welcome though 9 and 10 year olds can choose to be in other options instead or as well if they prefer. There will be a Sharing at the end of term to show the rest of the company, friends and family what has been learnt.
