Stage2's Annual Summer Schools 2019

Poetry for Performance & Creative Writing Workshops for 7 - 21 year olds!

This year, Stage2 are hosting two fantastic Summer Schools focussing on Poetry for Performance and Creative Writing - lead by the acclaimed youth-director Liz Light and Artistic Director of Stage2 Alex Butler, these two options offer valuable skills in two key areas.

Poetry for Performance

Run by Liz Light

A purely practical course, bringing famous poems vividly to life! We will take 4 poems a day and perform them as a group, with solo and choral lines and actions. We will use a range of styles and a range of accents – depending on the style and subject of the piece. The idea is to have fun, but also to help useful quotes and themes stay in your mind for schoolwork or just general cleverness!

We will give priority to the GCSE and ‘A’ level set poems to really help those young people improve their grades, but will also take suggestions of classics and firm favourites too.

This course is totally suitable for any age as we will not be discussing practical criticism or writing critiques on style etc, just performing great work! Lines and parts will all be flexible (with scripts being used at all times), so you can have as much or as little to do as you wish in each piece.

Build your confidence whilst learning how to work as a creative team and greatly expand your English Literature repertoire. Alternatively, just come along and have fun with like-minded people!

Creative Writing Course

Run by Alex Butler

Have you ever wondered what it takes to sit down and write a play? Have you ever tried, but realised you had no idea where to begin? This year, Stage2 is offering a tailored course around Creative Writing Tuition and Support for young creatives in and around Birmingham. This content is geared around helping you to realise your strengths in writing, and we will work both collaboratively and individually on developing your work.

From Plays to Spoken Word, we will challenge what it means to be a writer and how you too can push yourself to improve your work – so whether you’re a budding playwright, a poet in the making or a Spoken Word Artist yet to be, this Summer School is ideal for you.
