Staatsburgh in Winter
Event Information
About this Event
The winter months were a unique time for Staatsburgh during the Gilded Age. Follow staff on a guided walk discussing the winter-time fun from the turn of the century. Using historic photos and oral histories, the tour will show to visitors how the Edwardians spent a day in the snow. Along the way, complete our winter scavenger hunt - fun for all ages!
The Mills family enjoyed several outdoor activities along the Hudson River - activities we still enjoy today, such as ice skating and sledding, to forgotten past-times like ice boat racing. Even tobogganing became a 'craze' in the 1880s!
The tour will be approximately 45 minutes in length and cover about 1 mile of fairly level terrain. The event will be re-scheduled in the event of heavy snow. Please wear comfortable shoes and appropriate cold-weather clothing.
PLEASE NOTE: Staatsburgh follows all NYS Department of Health guidelines for safety during the COVID 19 pandemic. Masks and social distancing will be required of all tour participants until these guidelines are lifted by New York State Parks.
