Hear the joy of Christmas through the voice of women composers - from the 9th c. Byzantine chant of Kassia, to Barbara Strozzi in 17th c. Italy to the spirituals of Undine Smith Moore and Margaret Bonds in 20th c. USA - and, sing along with the choir in twenty Christmas highlights from Handel's Messiah.
Videos have been created in the beautiful sacred space of St. Paul's by soloists and small choral ensembles. The program also includes virtual choir renditions of "For unto us a child is born" and "Joy to the world" with 40 singers from the choir singing, age 6 through adult. All recordings were created this Fall of 2020, except for a recording of the Hallelujah Chorus from Easter Day 2019 at St. Paul's with choir and orchestra.
Here is a link to a Messiah score pdf so you may sing along with the Christmas highlights performed.
A talk before the release of the concert on December 13th included an introduction to the women composers highlighted, a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the creation of this online concert, and presentation of Choir School awards.
All donations benefit the St. Paul's Choir School.
