Description

As part of the parish’s 150th Anniversary celebration, St. Mary the Immaculate Conception Parish invites you to the Stained Glass Tour of their exquisite German made stained glass windows and other architectural treasures of the church on Sat. Aug. 26 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

These priceless stained glass windows were made by F. X. Zettler Stained Glass Studios of Munich, Germany and installed in 1927. Other architectural treasures include the Indiana Bedford stone Katherine Barker Memorial Altar and church furniture designed by Alfonso Iannelli; Stations of the Cross, complimentary to the altar, were designed, produced and installed by Daprato Statuary Co., Chicago ca. 1929; and other items. Docents will be available to give guided tours or you may tour at your own pace.

As part of this event the Barker Mansion will also have on display in church many interesting artifacts of Catherine Barker Spaulding Hickox, who donated the Katherine Barker Memorial Altar in memory of her mother. Jessica Rosier, Director of the Mansion and intern Bailey Roberts will be available to answer questions.

Intern Bailey Roberts will also give special presentations at 10:00, 12:00 & 2:00 about the Barker Family’s involvement in the Religious Communities in Michigan City during the Guilded Age in Christianity. Roberts is a native of La Porte and is a Sophmore at Denison University at Grandville, OH majoring in History and Religion with a concentration in Theology.

Admission is free.
