St. Louis Cemetery #1 Tour
Thu, May 25, 2017, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM CDT
Experience New Orleans culture as never before as award winning tour guide Randy Bibb guides you through the oldest cemetery in the city – the world renown St. Louis Cemetery #1.
Established in 1789 and consecrated in 1796 on its present location, St. Louis Cemetery contains above-ground tombs, below ground graves (yes! It is possible to bury below ground) and vaults in the walls that surround it. Visit the tomb of the Vodou Queen, Marie Laveau and learn the truth of this much maligned, dearly beloved historical woman. You will also see the future resting place of Nicholas Cage as well as the tombs of many of New Orleans most historic people.
St. Louis Cemetery is private property, owned and maintained by the Archdiocese of New Orleans. It is a consecrated, working, Catholic cemetery. Respect and decorum is expected.
Wear comfortable walking shoes; bring a bottle of water during summer months; shade is often at a premium so wear a wide brimmed hat, sunblock or have an umbrella. Tour departs rain or shine. Please note, there are no public restrooms in the cemetery.
