    The Rose Ensemble presents American Roots: Harmonies That Shaped A Nation. Uniting rich vocal artistry with scholarly research, The Rose Ensemble creates musical performances that connect audiences to compelling stories of human history, culture, and spirituality from around the world. Their engaging stage presence, diverse singing styles, and impressive array of folk and classical instruments provide concert-goers with a bountiful harvest of over 300 years of American harmony - all lovingly woven together through story and song.

    The international award-winning British vocal quintet Apollo5 is known for their engaging and lively performances of a wide rage of repertoire including classical, folk, jazz and pop. With A Song In My Heart brings to life a diverse program of sacred choral music, spirituals, traditional melodies, jazz standards and pop songs all presented with versatility and charm. The five charismatic singers will take you on a musical journey exploring music from the British Isles and beyond. Their program includes music by Monteverdi, Purcell, Schumann, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Edward Grieg, Alexander Levine, Steven Sondheim, Bob Dylan, Édith Piaf’s “La Vie en Rose”, George Gershwin’s “Summertine”, and many more.

  • Sunday, April 22, 2018 - 4:00pm

    They’re back! Chanticleer will present Soldier The hearts of soldiers burst with every emotion. Expressed in music from the Renaissance to the present day, these sentiments ranging from extreme pain to extreme joy are universal. Soldier will feature early music of war and peace from Byrd, Tomkins, Jannequin and Dufay. Stirring martial music from Russia includes works by Glinka and traditional songs sung by ordinary soldiers. New works for Chanticleer by Mason Bates and John Musto, joining celebrated choruses from Jennifer Higdon’s “Cold Mountain” and lighthearted music from the home front.

  • Sunday, May 20, 2018 - 4:00pm

    The St. James Choir and orchestra will be joined by the prolific American composer, Morten Lauridsen, for a special program of his own works. A National Medal of Arts recipient (2007), he was composer-in-residence of the Los Angeles Master Chorale (1994–2001) and has been a professor of composition at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music for more than 40 years. Lauridsen has been praised “for his composition of radiant choral works combining musical beauty, power, and spiritual depth.” We are thrilled to welcome him to St. James for the finale of our 2017-2018 season.
