St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, will offer diabetes education classes: November 15, 16 and 17. The three-day course runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the diabetes classroom at St. E’s, 1044 Belmont Ave.
Healthcare professionals who teach the course, which is certified by the American Diabetes Association, focus on the medical aspects of the disease such as medications, glucose monitoring, exercise and complications during the first session. The second and third sessions focus on learning to plan meals, count carbohydrates, interpret food labels and make positive food choices.
“These classes provide participants with the knowledge they need to manage their diabetes and avoid the long-term complications the disease can cause,” says Kay Leonhart, former manager, diabetes education, Mercy Health Youngstown. They are offered throughout the year at three Mercy Health Youngstown locations: St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
