'SSI/SSDI & Work Incentives - Understanding the Myriad of Rules Governing SSI/SSDI, Medicaid, Medicare & Related Work Incentives for Individuals with Disabilities - Let's Get RId of the Myths!

This is a 2-day comprehensive training class. Space is limited to encourage an interactive session and plenty of Q & A time.

We are collaborating with the Center for Family Involvement at VCU to offer assistance for families who might need to help covering the cost of registration and/or travel to this training.

  • A must for any direct service professional that works with SSI or SSDI beneficiaries and Medicaid Waiver participants that earn or want to earn income - public or private agency;

  • A must for case managers or care coordinators who are required to talk about employment with their clients and want to understand how earned income (wages) and unearned income affect cash, medical benefits; as well as other local, state and federal benefit programs;

  • A must for school-to-work transition staff;

  • A must for all vocatioal rehabilitation managers & staff;

  • A must for parents & family members of SSI and/or SSDI beneficiaries who work or want to work;

  • A must for SSI and/or SSDI beneficiaries who work or want to work;

  • Understand benefit programs under Social Security - SSI and SSDI;

  • Understand how earned income (wages) and unearned income affect cash and medical benefits, as well as other local state and federal benefits;

  • Understand which work incentives belong to which benefit program, when to use them and which ones to use;

  • Understand Medicaid & Medicare rules when individuals earn income;

  • Understand Medicaid Waivers and working rules;

  • Understand & identify a variety of work incentives available including 1619(a), 1619(b), Income Related Work Expenses (IRWE), PASS Plans, Student Earned Income Exclusion (SEIE), Virginia's Medicaid Works Program, Section 301 Provision, Substantial Gainful Activity, Trial Work Period, Extended Period of Eligibility, etc.

  • Access information from the SSA website & other important web resources;

  • Other topics of discussion will include Initial Eligibility, Ticket to Work, SNAP benefits, Housing Subsidies, Earned Income Disregard (Housing), Earned Income Tax Credit, and ABLEnow opportunities.
