Description

Join a discussion with experts from the field

How do we ensure the protection of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of women and girls in the ongoing humanitarian situation in Yemen and Iraq?

In Yemen, millions of people continue to face a triple tragedy from the spectre of famine, the world’s largest ever single-year cholera outbreak due to a man-made conflict that erupted in March 2015. In Iraq, the retaking of Mosul resulted in a displacement of >900,000 bringing the total of internally displaced people to 3.2 million with close to 7 million in need of humanitarian assistance.

The population displacement, the lack of adequate health professionals and structural damage to facilities have put significant strain on existing social services, including reproductive health services in Yemen and Iraq. UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund is working to provide reproductive health services, equipment and medication to women and girls, and to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, which is highly prevalent.

UNFPA invites you to a discussion about SRHR in humanitarian settings together with the UNFPA Country Representative in Yemen, Anjali Sen, UNFPA Country Representative in Iraq, Ramanathan Balakrishnan, and UNFPA Regional Partnership Adviser, Arab States, Sherin SaadAllah.
