Event description

Description

Across BC, Canada and the world, Indigenous Guardian Watchmen Programs are prioritizing Indigenous leadership in land stewardship, industry monitoring, ecological research, youth mentorship, and the preservation and restoration of cultural sites. Seeing the success in these programs, we are looking to create one in our own community of Squamish Nation.

You are invited to Squamish Nation Stewardship Network's workshop. This workshop is an opportunity to learn more about these stewardship programs and to share your perspective on how a Squamish Guardian Watchmen program could reflect the interests and priorities of our community. We will also get to spend time out on the land with Leigh Joseph in the afternoon as she leads an ethnobotany workshop!

When: March 7th 2020

Time: 9AM - 4PM, lunch provided

Where: Totem Hall | 1380 Stawamus Rd, Squamish | https://goo.gl/maps/1XKChxVEbDWrnv52A

Cost: Free!

*Prizes from Patagonia, Skwalwen Botanicals (https://skwalwen.com/), Squamish Airhouse (https://airhouse.ca/) and more!

This workshop is being put on by the Howe Sound/Atl'ka7tsem Marine Reference Guide, an initiative on Tides Canada's shared platform. The Guide's goal is to build capacity to protect the human and biodiversity values associated with this region's treasured marine realm.
