There will be three main BI sessions on this evening that will be confirmed in due course.
Visionary Speaker - Eric Lawson
Transitioning from Reporting to Complete Business Intelligence Solutions
Incredible focus is now upon the BI arena especially as Microsoft’s BI offering is a compelling choice for businesses in transition from small to medium or medium to large, and while technology roadmaps present significant challenges, what about the people those roadmaps need to be successful? Do you want to deliver a next generation of an existing reporting system or could you play a part in improving the way your organisation measures its business performance and makes its decisions?
By sharing his experience and wisdom, Eric’s story telling session will help you understand:
- How businesses get value from business intelligence
- What evolved reporting systems are
- The types of skills businesses need from their BI specialists
- How to get those skills
- What we are trying to help businesses achieve
- A summary of how I feel you can evolve as a BI specialist
Eric now has 25 years’ experience working with the database technologies, specifically in the areas of creating business intelligence strategies, ERD and database modelling, along with designing and performance tuning large scale ETL systems; experience that he’s gained starting with IBM DB2, Tandem’s NonStop SQL, and most recently, SQL Server in the last few years.
Technology Speaker - Justin Langford MCM/MVP
An introduction to Hadoop, HD Insight Server and Big Data
In this session, Justin will introduce Microsoft's first Big Data product, HD Insight Server, along with background about Big Data in the real world. Additionally, Justin will demo how you can begin using HD Insight Server on a laptop to import data into Hadoop before querying it in Excel through an ODBC link.
Justin is a Director of Coeo, a Microsoft Certified Master and a Most Valued Professional.
Kick Off Speaker - Mark Pryce-Maher
A tour of PowerPivot in 15 minutes
Mark will start our evening with a tour of PowerPivot, Microsoft's Excel hosted end-user business intelligence tool.
