Description

SIGN UP NOW FOR OUR SPRING SAMPLER! Limited seats. (Facilitated by Jennifer Wolfe)

Please join us for our Spring Series "Sampler" as we explore the idea of writing "in the garden," focusing on what is blooming in our own writing and in the larger world.

This “Sampler” of our Spring Series will focus on writing in the garden, setting up themes we'll explore throughout the semester: writing, gardens, nature, conservation, memoir, transformative journeys by women writers in the garden, and more. The Sampler will give you a taste of what is to come in Spring 2020, which will include our Spring Art Show, “Blooms,” featuring six local women artists and writers, and various related activities like urban bird + garden walks, native plant cultivation, flower arranging, and a collaboration with the Garden Club of Jacksonville. We will focus, as always, on how each of us can thrive in our own backyard.

WHAT: Spring Sampler 2020
WHEN: January 29, 2020, 6-8:30 p.m. (arrive 5:45)
WHERE: Riverside (1610 Osceola Street, 32204)
CLASS SIZE: Limited to 14 seats.
FEE: $25 for the Sampler (non-refundable unless canceled two weeks before class).

If you enjoy this Sampler, try our Spring Series 2020 beginning two weeks later, on Feb. 12, where we'll explore more deeply themes from a variety of garden and writing books, including The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver, and Green Thoughts: A Writer in the Garden by Eleanor Perenyi—plus more great books!

The Spring Series meets weekly on Wednesday nights for 12 weeks, beginning February 12 and ending April 29. The semester culminates in our Public ReadAround on the weekend of May 9, 2020.

New writer? Remember, you don't have to be a professional writer to join in. Use this class to find out more about Women Writing for (a) Change's amazing process, used by thousands of women across the country since to express their authentic selves through writing and community-building. We'll use prompts, poetry, and prose to practice many different writing techniques.

Experienced writer? You'll have a chance to sharpen your craft and technique in our small-group circles, so, bring whatever project you're working on and expect good feedback.

Women Writing for (a) Change® was founded in 1991 by Mary Pierce Brosmer, a practicing poet and former English teacher. She developed WWf(a)C to encourage women to find their voices, speak their truths, and tell their stories in a world in which they were often silenced. (womenwriting.org). The Jacksonville-affiliated school was established in 2014 by Jennifer Wolfe, evolving into a non-profit in 2018, and adding three new faculty members in 2019-2020. Each newly certified faculty member will offer classes for the school starting in 2020, expanding our outreach and accessibility to a larger, more diverse audience.

“A circle of women may be the most powerful force known to humanity. If you have one, embrace it. If you need one, seek it. If you find one, for the love of all that is good and holy, Dive in. Hold on. Love it up. Get naked. Let them see you. Let them hold you. Let your reluctant tears fall. Let yourself rise fierce and love great. You will be changed. The very fabric of your Being will be altered by this. If you allow it. Please, allow it.” — Jeanette LeBlanc
