Please join us for breakfast, networking and a free workshop to help cultivate and grow your public relations knowledge and presence. Three seasoned industry professionals will share their insights and experiences with you, and you’ll receive a valuable hands-on training! The morning will feature fresh new ideas in PR, including:

David Giroux
Director of Marketing and Communications
Division of Continuing Studies, UW-Madison

As the new Director of Marketing & Communications for the Division of Continuing Studies at UW-Madison, David will play a critical role in developing new ways to engage adult learners. David has previously served as the Executive Director of Communications and External Relations for the University of Wisconsin System, the Communications Director for the University of Wisconsin-Extension, and had worked for 13 years in the non-profit and private sectors, including Alliant Energy Corp and the American Red Cross. He earned his Master of Science in Family and Consumer Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Speech Communication from the University of Maine. A graduate of the U.S. Army’s Defense Information School, David served as a National Guard journalist and photographer for nine years. He is an active member of the Public Relations Society of America, and a Wisconsin Public Television volunteer. David and his wife, Anne, live in Madison with their three daughters. They founded Lily's Fund - a grassroots organization that supports epilepsy research at UW-Madison.

As managing editor of Madison Magazine, Katie loves seeing the magazine evolve from ideas and concepts to glossy pages filled with stories and photography. She coordinates their arts and entertainment coverage and writes the Artscape blog for Katie also contributes travel features and frequently writes about people, books and other interesting aspects of the city. She has earned degrees in journalism and art history from the UW-Madison and a master’s in journalism from Stanford University. An avid traveler, she never passes up an opportunity to experience a new place, but she always enjoys exploring Madison’s galleries, shops, trails, lakes and neighborhoods. Katie lives in the city with her husband, their baby girl and dog.

Judy Frankel

A native of Montreal, Quebec Canada, Judy Frankel has worked as a journalist and media professional for more than twenty years.  Columnist, reporter, editor, and news manager, Judy has a worked in news media outlets in Toronto (CBLT), Vancouver (BCTV) and New York prior to moving to Wisconsin. Since moving to Madison in 2001, she has written and edited for a variety of publications including The Capital Times, Madison Magazine, Wisconsin Trails, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business Magazine and the UW Business Wire. Familiar with the inner workings of broadcast and print mediums as a news manager, Judy has held senior management positions at ANEW Magazine and WKOW TV Inc. in Madison, WI. Her return to broadcasting followed many years of experience as a reporter and writer and editor for local newspapers and magazines. She earned both her undergraduate and master degree in political science from the University of Western Ontario. She currently heads up the Madison Writer’s Network and is proud to serve on the Ethics Committee panel for the Center for Journalism Ethics at UW-Madison.
