Event description

Description

Deadline: March 23

Event Dates/Times: April 25, April 26, April 27 (Two full days and one half day TBC)

This training introduces using co-design / co-creation design methodologies, giving an insight into how academics use these methodologies in discipline-specific and interdisciplinary contexts.

Co-design is an established approach for practical creativity, used to research many sectors of society. Co-design is grounded in the participatory design approach, originally developed in Scandinavian countries, which aims at bringing people (e.g. end-users, service users) well within in the design process, in order to empower them and design solutions that are closer to their needs. The approach allows researchers to draw insights from a variety of sources and experiences, in order to deliver creative formulations and solutions.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. llustrate how co-design / co-creation will help generate greater understanding of users for discipline specific and interdisciplinary research.
  2. Describe and experience approaches to co-design / co-creation for exploring solutions to complex issues.
  3. Be able to translate the principles of co-design / co-creation into their own research

This workshop will be of particular interest to Doctoral researchers:

  1. In all disciplines of the arts, humanities and social sciences – particularly those with an interest in industry collaboration, public policy or public engagement.
  2. Engaged in end-user, media production and design-based research
  3. Wishing to explore different methods of evaluating and validating their research

Please note that this is an application process, submission does not guarantee you a place. Applicants will be notified of the decision by March 29.

Travel expenses from your home HEI will be reimbursed by the graduate school responsible for your subject area in line with their travel expense policy.

Spring into Methods includes eight interdisciplinary training courses on research methods for doctoral researchers in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Click here for more information.
