Event description

Description

Join me for a spring wander through beautiful Wild Park in Brighton for an introduction to the many common edible and medicinal plants and trees that grow in this idyllic corner of Brighton.

On this walk you will have the opportunity to observe, touch, smell and taste many of these plants, and to learn about their culinary and medicinal applications so you can begin incorporating wild food and medicine into your own life!

We will be covering some foraging fundamentals, including safety, the law and sustainable/ethical harvesting, as well as examining some of the poisonous or inedible plants that we come across.

Following a comprehensive foraging/ plant identification walk covering twenty plus species, you will have a chance to enjoy a wild food taster picnic, including foraged and wild inspired foods and refreshments such as wild leaf salad and pesto, sauerkrauts and kimchi, wild dairy cheeses, fermented plant based cheeses, herbal teas, cordials and nettle fizz.

Wild Park is easily accessible by public transport and lies on the main 25 University bus route.

Please bring suitable clothing and foot wear for a few hours outdoors, as well as water and a snack to sustain you during the walk if you think you will need it. Please be aware that there are some reasonably steep inclines on the route (resulting in splendid views of the south downs!).

To make the most of your experience, it is recommended that you bring a notepad and pen, or another means of recording the information. There can be a lot to take in and field notes can prove invaluable when it comes to further learning.
