Spring Cutback Training 2018
Date and time
Location
Diller-Von Furstenburg Building
820 Washington Street Floor 4 New York, NY 10014Description
As we enter this exciting time of the year, we invite you to go on the High Line and get involved with our High Line staff and volunteers during the High Line Spring Cutback.
Every year in the spring, we work with neighbors and friends to prepare the park's landscape for a new growing season. We expect to cut more than 100,000 plants on the High Line this year and we hope you will join us!
Landscape designer Piet Oudolf envisioned the High Line an exciting park all year-round, with different texture and color, and thus High Line Gardeners let the grasses and perennials intact after the fall to provide structure, beauty, and habitat throughout the winter. Early in the spring, High Line Gardeners and many dedicated volunteers trim all of the High Line’s plants to make way for new growth.
As a Spring Cutback volunteer you will:
- Join an enthusiastic and dedicated team
- Work side-by-side with High Line Gardeners to sheer back grasses and perennials by hand, using pruners and scissors
- Get to know the ins and outs of the High Line’s landscape
- Watch new green shoots and spring bulbs emerge as you trim tufts of wild grasses and overwintered perennials
- Help us prepare for a lush, beautiful growing season ahead
- Give back to the community
