Book and Lyrics by Steven Sater Music by Duncan Sheik
Directed by Kenneth Noel Mitchell
Based on the play be Frank Wedekind
Adapted from Frank Wedekind's expressionist play about the trials, tears, and exhilaration of the teen years, Spring Awakening celebrates the journey from youth to adulthood with power, poignancy, and passion. Winner of the 2007 Tony Award for Best Musical, Spring Awakening focuses on budding adolescents in Germany during the 1890s, but its themes—awakening sexuality, teen pregnancy, and parental and academic pressures—are equally pertinent in any American junior high school.
