About this event

In-Person Classes Start Sunday, January 30th, 2022

With vaccinations now available to elementary age students, we will be resuming in-person band classes starting in January 2022. Instruments will fill on a first come first serve basis so register soon!

Program Dates:

  • Starting: Sunday, January 23, 2022 - POSTPONED to January 30th, 2022 due to the spike in COVID cases
  • Ending: Sunday, May 29, 2022

Sectionals: All sectionals will run for 1 hour in groups of up to 10 students maximum. Times will vary from 2-5 PM on Sundays depending on the instrument.

Location: All classes are located at the First United Methodist Church (2950 Washington Blvd, Fremont, CA 94539)

Our Process: This program is designed to be in-person, but will have homework assignments (recordings of students playing) that are submitted online.

Groups: We will only be offering a beginning level (no previous experience), all returning students will need to participate in our hybrid program.

Instruments Offered: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium/Baritone, French Horn, Percussion (Snare + Bells)

Costs: Our program is completely free to all students, though we do highly encourage donations to help us support our program. We're asking for a $300 dollar donation, which covers SmartMusic, sheet music, sectionals, renting our facilities, and lessons.

Grading: To evaluate our students' progress throughout the year, we use Thinkwave to keep track of student performance in our program. The grades will not affect whether or not students can remain in the program; we use them so both parents and volunteers can make sure students are keeping up in class! Students will be graded for the following:

  • Weekly Class Attendance
  • SmartMusic Homework Assignments
  • Music Theory Quizzes
  • Playing Tests

Introduction Meeting: We will be having a Zoom meeting on Wednesday January 19th, 2022 from 6-7 PM where students and parents will be introduced to our program's directors, and will get all of the needed information and clarification on how our program will run. We highly encourage all parents to come! More information regarding this meeting will be sent a few weeks prior. Meeting details are available in your confirmation email.

Instrument Selection: Upon registering, you will be able to see which classes have open spots. New sections may be added and students may drop, but our current open availability will always be what is listed on the site. Due to the challenges of scheduling, there will not be any waitlist for any class.

Instrument Rentals: TBC offers a limited number of Trombone and Baritones to students with priority given to students from low income families. Unfortunately, TBC is unable to provide any other instruments. We strongly encourage students to rent instruments to start with from Allegro Music or C&L Music. Please do not buy instruments on eBay or Amazon.

  • Instrument Bell Cover
  • Music stand
  • Method Books: Beginning and Intermediate Band - Standards of Excellence Book 1 (Red) and Standards of Excellence Book 2 (Blue)

Attendance Policy: We ask that all absences be reported at least 1 week in advance, and will only be marked as excused we are notified at least 24 hours prior to the sectional class. Students with multiple unexcused absences may be dropped from the class.

COVID-19 Policy: All students will need to be fully vaccinated before coming to class or send us weekly negative COVID-19 tests.

Organizer Tri-City Band Corps

Organizer of Spring 2022 Tri-City Band Corps Elementary Band

The Tri-City Band Corps (TBC) is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 to provide performance opportunities for students to supplement those offered by local school marching bands. Since then we've grown our mission to helping develop younger students in preparation for high school marching band, and also helping high school aged students pursue college education.

TBC currently has over 500 members from over two dozen Bay Area schools involved with our various programs. What makes us stand out is that our organization is all student led. Current high school students run just about every aspect of TBC from uniform management, to running rehearsals, fundraisers, and even composing some of the songs we play! Best of all, our summer and fall programs are FREE! Our fundraising and donations have been able to cover all of our costs from uniforms to instruments, and instructors!

  • Hastati Regiment - Elementary beginning band program
  • Cadet Regiment - Junior High Marching Band for rising 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students
  • Royal Regiment - High School Marching Band for students who already have some marching experience
  • Eternal Regiment - Jr high winter Color Guard unit competing in the CCGC circuit
  • Tri-City Winter Guard - Independent A class winter guard competing in the CCGC circuit
  • Tri-City Percussion (Vanguard Regiment) - Open Class Winter Percussion Unit competing in NCPA, and WGI
  • Tri-City Percussion A - Independent A class winter percussion competing in CCGC and NCPA circuits
  • International Trips - Every couple of years, TBC has been fortunate to be invited to perform abroad, providing a unique performance opportunity for students, many of whom are not able to do so with their other groups. In 2016 we performed in the London New Year's Parade, and in 2018, the Rome New Year's Day Parade.
  • Officer Board (Student Leadership) - TBC is run by a team of students who volunteer to take on just about every responsibility of running a marching band, making for a great leadership experience to put on college apps!
