Event description
Join City Guide Bruce Bennett as he shares stories of how Spreckels' influenced San Francisco in the early days and for decades later.

About this Event

Beginning in the late 1850s, Claus Spreckels arrived in San Francisco and set his sight on building his sugar empire that would later bring a tremendous amount of wealth to the Spreckels family. The reach of the Spreckels' sugar empire would reach from Hawaii to the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. We will be focusing on Claus Spreckels and Alma de Bretteville Spreckels contributions.

Discover the Spreckels' influence on the businesses, railroads and museums that they built over time to 1951 spanning 100 years. Both Claus & “Big” Alma had significant influences on sugar production in the factory towns they built to Legion of Honor and Maritime Museums that were built with their money to leave a legacy that few families could leave.
