Spotting Opportunities Hidden in Plain Sight
What do moonwalking bears and measuring cups have to do with innovation? And what can we learn from Hollywood and hot dog eating champions about seeing differently?
In this talk, we will share how our “frames” (the way we see the world, ourselves, and our challenges & opportunities) all factor into if and how we innovate, both individually and organizationally. We’ll also describe how brands as diverse as Alcoa, SPANX, and Grameen Bank discovered unmet needs and successfully developed new products and new business models to address them. Lastly, we will discuss what we can do differently to overcome the invisible constraints that often limit how we see, think, and work.
About our speaker
David Phillips of DesignThinkers Group specializes in helping organizations develop the innovation capabilities of their people. He does this primarily by guiding them in applying the tools of human-centered design in order to find unexpected solutions to their biggest challenges. David draws on his diversity of experience in consulting, financial services, non-profits, public accounting, public education, and the U.S. Air Force to approach problems from different perspectives and to enable others to do the same. He holds a B.S. in Education from Louisiana Tech University and resides in Charlotte, NC.
