Event description
Lock arms with other movement professionals & coaches in investigating the emergence of skilled movement behavior in sport at the SMSC '21!

About this event

Dear Friend in Sport Movement Skill,

I was holding out hope that this year’s event was going to be able to be an in-person event like it was in 2018 & 2019. However, based on some of the uncertainties still surrounding traveling and the pandemic as a whole, we have made the decision that the 4th Annual Sport Movement Skill Conference will once again be virtual this year as it was in 2020. The dates will be Thursday, May 20 through Sunday, May 23, 2021.

Though I am bit bummed that both old and new friends from within the movement community won’t be able to physically gather together in learning, I remain optimistic about what 2021’s event holds. Our theme for this year’s event will simply be ‘Adaptability.’ This was selected because of the importance of this movement quality to many of us in the field but also due to its relevance to us all based on what the world has been through in the last year. It will certainly allow us to build even greater momentum upon where previous year’s events and initiatives have taken us.

I am proud to say that since the introduction of the SMSC into the space four years ago, I have witnessed an evolution of many of the thoughts and ideas across the community. Most notably, I believe that changes are occurring within the practice and learning environments designed for athletes of all levels to enhance their movement skill in the context of their sport. This was definitely made possible because of the work of the many speakers and most of all, the numerous delegates, who have attended in these last several years. Thus, I am honored and grateful that the SMSC is a small part of these objectives in offering a platform where passionate and committed movement professionals and coaches can come together in a safe forum and discuss what’s on their mind, drawing from their unique perspectives and experiences.

On that note, in an attempt to complement the various highly interactive sessions with each of our world-class presenters, we will also be hosting synchronous meeting rooms for emergent discussions between delegates throughout the course of the four days of the event. I believe that this has been one of the most important features of previous editions of the event as it allows for a personalized depth of discussion and networking among those in attendance.

Whether you elect to attend the 2021 Sport Movement Skill Conference or not, I thank you for your passion, energy, and commitment to pushing the entire community forward. I believe that if we continue to lock arms and collaborate, we will collectively advance and evolve the thoughts, beliefs, and ideas within this craft that we care so much about.

Stay tuned for further updates week-by-week as we approach the event. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

Till next time, let’s all continue to master the art of optimizing movement.

Yours in Movement Mastery,

Shawn Myszka

SMSC Conference President
