Valdese, NC – September 8, 2016 – The Historic Valdese Foundation and the Valdese Main Street Program are working together to bring a “movie theater” to the Old Rock School Auditorium.
On Tuesday, the Valdese Town Council voted to allow the Old Rock School movie theater project to proceed. The goal of the project is to offer auditorium seat sponsorships, and with the funds from the sponsorships, purchase a movie projector system that will be installed in the auditorium to show movies. Once this installation is complete, the Old Rock School will offer free movie screenings to the public. Citizens and patrons of the Old Rock School are invited to sponsor a seat in one of the following categories:
Patrons who donate $100 will be considered a Movie Star Sponsor, receiving a plaque on a seat in the center section of the auditorium. Those who donate $75 are considered Director Sponsors and will be given a plaque in the right or left orchestra section. Those who donate $50 will be Producer Sponsors and will be given a plaque on a seat in the balcony section. These seats will not be considered reserved seats. The auditorium will remain open for general admission and there will be a total of 473 seats available for sponsorship.
“We are extremely excited to offer this fundraiser to our community! For many years we have heard requests from our public wanting a movie theater in Valdese. With this project we hope to full-fill those requests and offer free entertainment to all ages”, states Morrissa Angi, Community Affairs Director for the Town of Valdese. The Old Rock School serves as an icon for the Valdese community and is the perfect location for this project. “This is a perfect way to honor loved ones who attended school at the Old Rock School while at the same time giving back to the community for generations to come”, Angi continues.
The Historic Valdese Foundation and the Valdese Main Street Program strive to encourage community involvement and honor historic attributes that make Valdese unique. This project will utilize an existing historic location while giving it an additional purpose. Both partners encourage citizens and patrons of the Old Rock School to take advantage of this opportunity to bring what they desire to Valdese.
Valdese Town Manager, Seth Eckard states “We are excited to partner with HVF and the Main Street Program on this wonderful opportunity. Our citizens are going to really enjoy spending quality time with their families watching fantastic movies right here in Valdese.” The movies offered will range from popular titles to classics, and will offer something for everyone. Screenings throughout the year will include themed events, such as a Kid’s Movie Day, Senior Citizens Matinee and Valentine’s Date Night.
Sponsorships are available for purchase online at visitvaldese.com, by mailing a check to P.O. Box 339 Valdese NC 28690, or in person with cash or check at the Old Rock School.
