Description

Afrikan American poets have been giving voice to the collective story and journey of our people for generations in various forms (poems, lyrics, rap, etc.) Join us in celebrating that powerful tradition when Angie's Baby and Opinionated and Melanated present the Black Poetry Day edition of SPOKEN VIBEZ at The VenU. Jeffrey G Poetry will host the event, which will feature several poets and spoken word artists, including Sen Topic, Eukyta Lese', and Bhakti Larry Hough, who will also bring the cosmic ancestral vibrations with the rhythms of African drumming.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

Black Poetry Day is October 17th and celebrates past and present Afrikan American poets. It has been observed annually since 1985. It is observed on October 17th to honor Jupiter Hammon, the first Afrikan American published poet, who was born October 17, 1711. His poem, An Evening Thought, was published in 1761.
