Wonder Works Owner Christine Osborne on Entrepreneurial Passion
Award winning, entrepreneur, philanthropist and Wonder Works toy store owner Christine Osborne knows the importance of being an entrepreneur with passion. With a contagious spirit and enthusiasm, Christine has owned Wonder Works toy stores for 24 years, with four locations throughout the Charleston Tri-County area.
Before owning Wonder Works toy stores, Christine worked at Southern Pines Hospital from 1981 until 1990, when Charter Corp. bought the private psychiatric hospital. She began as an occupational therapist and was promoted to the post of marketing director in 1985. She stayed on with Charter Corp. for a while after the sale, but her heart was no longer in the work. “I went home and told my husband, ‘My creativity’s gone. I can’t do it again for another company.’”
Christine and her close friend and fellow Southern Pines hospital administrator, Dan Morrisey, decided to open a different kind of toy store, one that inspired the wonder and magic of fun.
With the uncanny ability to spot a craze and hot items before they even hit the shelves, Christine leads her team with a passion to provide children and families with the most magical toys that help develop social, mental and physical skills. Of course while inspiring fun, creativity and imagination!
As the owner of Wonder Works, Christine has been an integral part of the community and toy industry for many, many years. She and Wonder Works toy stores have won countless local and national awards and recognition based on the business’ success, achievements, community involvement.
Christine is devoted to supporting the talented children in the Charleston community and provides a platform for child entrepreneurs, child musicians and singers, child authors and children’s charities.
“Wonder Works is truly a magical world and it has unveiled my true passion. One child can make a difference; it’s as simple as that. My mission is to empower these children and to help them find their voice and their passion so they can then inspire others. The ripple effect will be set into place and the magic will just unfold.”
