Join Christina Puchalski, MD, MS, FACP, FAAHPM, Founder & Director, The George Washington Institute for Spirituality and Health, for a two-part conversation around Spirituality and Health.

This talk will review the concepts of being present to patients’ suffering, what is needed in professional development to be able to do that and will describe an innovative program currently used in medical schools called GWish-Templeton Reflection Rounds which is a competency based program in spirituality and health.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will reflect on what is meant by attending to a patient’s suffering.
  • Participants will discuss ways in which clinicians’ own spirituality impacts their ability to be present to patients
  • Participants will describe an educational program integrating clinicians’ spirituality in their professional formation.

A discussion of ethical challenges for all clinicians including chaplains in the provision of spiritual care as well as the responsibilities of systems and individuals in attending to suffering.

  • Participants will identify specific ethical standards that apply to their professions
  • Participants will explore ways in which systems and individuals are responsible for attending to suffering of patients.
