Keynote Speaker:

Elana Rosenbaum, MS, LICSW

With more than 35 years of experience integrating mindfulness meditation and psychotherapy, Elana Rosenbaum, MS, LICSW, is a pioneer in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and the clinical application of mindfulness meditation to cancer care. Elana is a well-published and sought-after mindfulness coach, teacher, speaker and research consultant and is currently an adjunct faculty member at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Elana worked closely with Jon Kabat-Zinn to increase awareness of the importance of mindfulness practices throughout the healthcare field and beyond.

Elana’s knowledge of mindfulness practices helped her endure a stem cell transplant after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 1995. Her experience eventually led to the development of a mindfulness-based intervention for bone marrow transplant patients at the UMASS Medical Center, Emory University, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Elana is grateful to be able to share her wisdom and help others live fully and experience peace.

WORKSHOPS

Art and Music Therapy
Stress is a normal response to life. Come, listen and explore as a Music Therapist and an Art Therapist explain the science and practice of music and art that help reduce stress.

Cancer under 40
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 60,000 young adults ages 20-39 are diagnosed with cancer each year in the U.S., and the need for resources and support continues to increase. In this session, we will discuss these needs and explore ways to fill the gap.

Caregivers & Caregiving
Living with illness not only affects the individual person but also their caregivers. Who are the caregivers? What do they do? What challenges do they face? Participants will identify, understand, and learn to incorporate strategies in their own lives.

Integrative Therapy
Come and learn about the services offered by Integrative Therapies. Participants will make their own aromatherapy to take with them. tbd , DF Richard Room

Labyrinth
This experiential workshop will help participants understand the history and diversity of the unicursal labyrinth and its contemporary use in meditative practice. Participants will be invited to walk a 7-circuit labyrinth and will be guided in a reflection on their experience. Jane Olivier, Foyer

Nutrition
Nutrition plays an important role in both symptom management and recovery from cancer treatment. Learn how our Oncology Dietitian develops a patient- and disease-specific nutrition care plan. Participants will help create a protein-rich smoothie.

Supportive and Palliative Care
This conversation will focus on symptom management, guidance for difficult treatment decisions, clear and compassionate communication with doctors, nurses, chaplains and social workers.

Spiritual Care Generalist
Nurses are often the first contact for people in the infusion centers. The FICA© is one spiritual screening tool that can be used. This session will introduce the tool, share case studies, and provide time for practice of the FICA©.

Spiritual Care Specialist
This workshop will explore questions asked of the S/C Specialist. What is a spiritual care plan? How is a spiritual care plan determined? Why? Come and explore these questions and more supporting the process of finding meaning and purpose in the time of illness.

Survivorship
While advances in cancer care make it possible for millions of people to become “survivors,” what does survivorship really mean? This discussion explores the diversity and richness found in defining “survivor” and illuminates the complex needs patients face after active treatment.
