Our mission for the Spice Grant is to create an environment that encourages and recognizes parents for their commitment in ensuring their child experiences a successful career in high school and beyond. To the current and future parents of E. E. Smith High School, YOU are the main SPICE in creating an “aroma of success” for your student.
HOW S.P.I.C.E WORKS
SPICE stands for Strengthening Parental Involvement in Children’s Education. The SPICE Program at E. E. Smith High School utilizes a point system to document parent participation at various events and activities that are vital to a child’s success (i.e. Open House, Parent Teacher Conference, PTSA, etc.). Participation in SPICE fosters a relationship between parent, child, and school to secure a strong and promising future for students. Research shows that students with actively engaged parents are more likely to:
❖ Attend school regularly
❖ Earn higher grades and test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs
❖ Be promoted, pass their classes, and earn credits
❖ Have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school
❖ Graduate and go on to postsecondary education
❖ Build stronger relationships between parents, schools, and community
Together parents, let us SPICE up an “aroma of excellence” in our students and school.
