Speculative Textiles – Spiders Silk to Cellulose: Collaborations between art, design and science
About this event
This talk considers design ecologies, collaborating with non-human agents (flora, arachnida and bacteria) to create organic and inorganic material-based hybrid sensor configurations and textile structures.
In the context of prevailing unsustainable global textile production systems and futures of material scarcity, the panel will discuss alternative models of production at the intersection of art, design and science. Where collaboration across disciplines has led to new locally manufactured, hi-tech, on-demand products with infrastructure that enables experimentation and prototyping, generating new forms of local knowledge and methodologies for textile production and critical speculation.
