Event description

General Information

This year's Spectrum Scale user group event has a fantastic agenda of Spectrum Scale experts and will take place over 2-days. The event will provide you with the opportunity to hear the latest Spectrum Scale updates from filesystem experts as well as hear from other users on their experiences. Similar to previous years, we're also holding smaller interactive workshops to allow for more detailed discussion.

Thank you for the kind sponsorship from all our sponsors, IBM, DDN, E8, Ellexus, Lenovo, NEC, and OCF without which the event would not be possible.

Whilst the user group is open to all Spectrum Scale users, please note that the user group is a forum for technical discussion and is not a sales opportunity.

Due to limited space at our venue, we are initially restricting attendance to 2 people per organisation. If more than two people from an organisation register, then we may contact you and cancel the tickets. As we get closer to the event we may be able to relax this.

The event is being held at the IBM Client Centre London, we will need to provide a list of attendees to security in advance of the event and so we can't take registration on the day. You will also need to bring photo ID to pass security (e.g. employee ID badge, driving license etc) that matches the name you gave at registration. As a central London venue, you may also be subject to a bag search on entering the building.

Details on transport links can be found on the IBM website.

Being located in central London means there are plenty of hotel options nearby. We do not provide a booking service for accommodation and you will need to make your own arrangements.

Any questions?

For any questions, please contact Claire O'Toole, group secretary by email

The Spectrum Scale User Group Meeting is a great opportunity to meet peers and to get access to development. On day 1, we'll be starting talks around 10am and finishing around 4:30-5pm. We usually start a little earlier on day 2 as people will typically have already traveled and stayed overnight in London. As always we will have a mix of topics including:

  • Spectrum Scale update
  • Deep dive into selected advanced topics
  • Best practices from the field
  • Customer site reports
  • Sponsor talks

The detailed agenda is posted on the Spectrum Scale User Group website.

Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Contact Claire O'Toole -

Can I update my registration information?

You can update your registration at any time. However, please note that we'll print the name badges and prepare the delegate pack a few days in advance, so final changes may not be reflected there if it is close to the event.

What are the sponsor talks?

To enable us to run the two days and evening social/networking event, we have asked for companies to sponsor the evening event. Sponsors are provided with a slot on the agenda to provide a technical talk focussed on Spectrum Scale/GPFS. We have specifically asked that these talks are not sales led.

Is this an IBM run event?

No. The Spectrum Scale user group is not part of IBM, we are a community of users, ISVs, VARs and have a number of IBM staff as members of the group. To enable us to bring developers from IBM to speak, we work closely with IBM to run user group events and are very grateful for their support.

I have an idea for a talk, how can I get a slot?

Contact Simon Thompson (group Chair) -

How do I join the group?

The group is free to join, please visit for details of the group and how to join the mailing list.

There are no tickets left, can I still attend?

We are limited to 110 people by the space available to us at the Client Centre. We will be running a wait-list, however if you do not have a ticket by event day, we are unlikely to be able to accommodate you. We are unable to take registrations on the day as we are required to supply the attendee list to security at IBM in advance.

I can no longer attend, what should I do?

Please contact Claire O'Toole - We will then be able to offer your ticket to another member.

Why do I need to bring photo ID to enter?

This is a security requirement of the IBM building. An employee photo ID card or driving license are acceptable forms of ID. The name on your ID must match the name provided at registration.
