Event description

Description

The SPECTRA Catalyst Conference will bring together successful cultural leaders, artists and experts from across Europe and within the UK, from both creative centre’s and from the periphery to present their strategy around cultural development, presenting their successes so far and their aspirations for the future, with a strong focus on Aberdeen.

We are delighted to be welcoming keynote speaker Martin Green, who has successfully led Hull as the City of Culture 2017. He is joined by the First Lady of Iceland, Eliza Reid who is the co-founder of Iceland Writers Retreat as well as very actively promoting the art and literature scene in Iceland, and Sif Gunnarsdóttir, Director of the Nordic House in the Faroe Islands.

We hear from the people directly involved in changing the cultural scene in Aberdeen, including Nuno Sacramento, who has been newly appointed as the Director of Peacock Visual Arts and Steve Slater Director of City Moves whilst Look Again's Hilary Nicoll will lead a panel quizzing artist working in the public realm. From our year-round residency programme we will bring together artists who we have supported working collaboratively in Aberdeen, Bury and Blackpool

There will also be a focus on light and sound in the cities as Professor of Composition and Electroacoustic Music at the University of Aberdeen, Pete Stollery will present a panel of experts who explore the public notion of identity of space through sound. Leading light and city play artists Tine Bech and Seb Lee Delisle will come together with world leaders in projection mapping Limelight and Illuminos to discuss how major interventions can have an impact on the built environment and perceptions of place. We will also welcome our international light festival peers from major festivals in Lichtfestival Ghent, Lux Helsinki and Factory Light Festival in Slemmestad, Norway.
