***FUNDS WILL BE DONATED TO MAKE CARE PACKAGE FOR A TROOP IN AFGHANISTAN FOR JULY 4TH! HELP US GIVE THANKS TO THOSE THAT DEFEND OUR FREEDOM! ***
We will also have a special tribute to John Guzman.
ESGR Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve will be in attendance to have us help in a letter writing project and providing employers with a tool kit to help in hiring vets.
Having served and defended our nation, veterans are well-trained, highly skilled, and will add value to any company. But today’s’ veterans face unique challenges. As of October of 2011, over 850,000 veterans were unemployed and the jobless rate for post 9/11 veterans was 12.1 percent. And as we end the war in Iraq and wind down the war in Afghanistan, over one million service members are projected to leave the military between 2011 and 2016. Accordingly, there is more work to do to ensure these men and women can find jobs at home when they return.
(White House press release- 11/7/2011)
During this presentation, the following areas will be discussed:
- Potential barriers to hiring veterans
- Government incentives to hire veterans
- OFCCP proposed changes to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA)
- Resources available to assist veterans find jobs
