Event description

Description

As 2018 is the Oxfordshire Year of Cryogenics the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory will host a special Lecture on Thursday 25th January highlighting different applications of Cryogenics. RAL has played a prominent part in cryogenics, developing the Rutherford Cable, Superconducting Magnets and the Oxford Cooler.

Dr Martin Crook, Head of Cryogenics at RAL, will speak about the Oxford Cooler, which revolutionised Cryogenics in Space from the 1990s onwards. The Oxford Cooler technology has an exciting future - enabling roles in Quantum technology.

Assistant Professor Agnieszka Piotrowska, Wroclaw University and R&D Manager at Creator Cryogenics, is a leading expert in Cryotherapy, one of the fastest growing application segments of Cryogenics - both in Health and Sports.

Professor David Cardwell is Head of Engineering at Cambridge University he will speak on Bulk Superconductivity Research - his team has the world technology record for superconducting magnetic field, which you can see live in action on January 25th!
