Event description

Description

A special symposium for parents of children in grades K-8 with language based learning disabilities.

9:00am – 4:00pm (not 4:30): All Day (with lunch)
9:00am-1:00pm Morning Program (with lunch)
12pm – 4:00pm Afternoon Program (with lunch)

One of the biggest challenges that parents of children diagnosed with a learning disability (LD) face is navigating the complicated special education system. The Special Education Symposium brings together experts in the fields of advocacy, school placement, school admissions, finance and law to provide practical tools and information that parents can use to help their children with an LD.

Parents will receive information about the supports and accommodations that mainstream schools can provide to students with special education needs, as well as the services provided by specialized schools and how to pursue specialized placement. Parents will also receive tips on financial planning for special education and gain an understanding of the legal process around funding and obtaining accommodations. The day ends with a panel of parents who will share their experiences navigating the special education process.
