Description

Workshop Descrption: The presenter will provide an overview of special education law and additional protections provided to students under Maryland law. The presenter will also provide an overview of Maryland State Department of Education guidance and technical assistance bulletins and share online special education law resources.

Learning Objectives/Goals:

  1. Participants will hear an overview of laws relevant to special education.
  2. Participants will learn about eligibility for special education and the special education evaluation process.
  3. Participants will learn the differences between an IFSP and an IEP.
  4. Participants will learn about extended school year services and transition planning.
  5. Participants will learn about available dispute resolution methods.

Presenter: Mallory Finn, Esq. is a staff attorney at Project HEAL (Health, Education, Advocacy, and Law), a community-based program of the Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities at Kennedy Krieger Institute.

Additional Information: Attendees may register for one, two, or all three of the presentations in this series. Attendees will eat lunch on their own from 12:00 — 1:00 p.m.
