This two-hour workshop provides information to parents of school-age children with mental illnesses about special education services, the evaluation process, Individualized Education Programs (IEP), 504 Plans, accommodations and modifications, discipline policies, parent’s rights, and the use of seclusion and restraints.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN: Participants will learn the process involved in obtaining special education services and alternatives to special education. They will also learn what rights they have as well as rights their child has.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND: This class is for parents/caregivers of children receiving or thinking of receiving special education services. This class is not intended to be professional development for educators or other youth serving professionals.

If you are unable to attend, a substitute individual is welcome to attend in your place, but NAMI Minnesota must be notified in writing (e-mail is acceptable) with the name and contact information for the person who will be attending. NAMI Minnesota reserves the right to cancel any event, conference or class due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. If there is a cancellation, participants will be notified by telephone and/or email as soon as possible. We will make reasonable efforts to reschedule.
