A HARAMBE SOCIAL SERVICES TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROJECT : SERVING AFRICAN AMERICAN VICTIMS OF CRIME


This three-part training series facilitated by Harambe Social Services focuses on barriers to African American victims of crime, particularly domestic violence and sexual violence and designed for victim service providers. Each five-hour training sessions will explore the unique barriers that African American/Black victims may encounter that impact their ability to seek services and follow through. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all three trainings, but each session can stand alone and will be offered at different locations at different times. All workshops are FREE and will held from 10:00 am-4:00 pm.

SPEAKING OF FAITH

In this workshop participants will explore tools and techniques that draw on a victims' faith and belief system to build trust. Using the context of domestic violence advocacy discuss ways to help victims acknowledge their faith as a strengh to positively influence their decisions to seek help and safety. Participants will discuss ways of working with the faith-community to provide support for victims of domestic violence in the African American Church.
