Event description

Description

Some of the most minuscule components in nature are the most beautiful and deserve a closer look!

Dr. Anna Edlund of Bethany College and Peggy Macnamara of the Field Museum will speak about their collaboration focusing on the beauty in the natural world at the smallest, even microscopic, scale. Their upcoming book combines breathtaking art and fascinating science to foster a conservation ethic in all of us.

Dr. Anna Edlund is the Associate Professor of Biology at Bethany College. Her research focuses on some of the smallest functions in nature – pollination and pollen cell behaviors in flowering plants. Dr. Edlund has extensively explored the smallest parts of pollen grains and has traced the rich art and science of pollen over the past 350 years.

Peggy Macnamara has served as the Artist-in-Residence at Chicago’s Field Museum of Natural History since 1990, and as an Associate Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Macnamara has traveled with Field Museum scientists all over the world to paint nature and illustrate conservation efforts.

In this talk, scientist and artist join forces to help us to look much closer and discover the small beautiful world right under our noses.
