Event description

Description

Many of our citizens are aware of the decision that was made last week to receive coal ash waste that will be brought in from Puerto Rico into the JED Landfill of Osceola County. This decision, voted on by the entirety of the county commission, was made in secrecy and without informing the community or holding public hearings. Environmentalists, health experts, scientists, and community leaders are very concerned about the possible health and environmental implications. It's a known fact that coal ash contains arsenic, lead, mercury, and selenium, as well as aluminum, barium, boron, and chlorine. These can all be toxic.

We need to take action! Alianza for Progress is convening neighbors and friends of the Kissimmee and St. Cloud to a press conference and to attend the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Monday, May 20th at 5:00pm. We cannot allow deals to go through behind closed doors and out of the public eye that put in danger the air and water that our children breathe.
