Additional Information

Spasmodic dysphonia (SD) is a neurological voice disorder that causes the muscles in the larynx (voice box) to spasm when the person with SD is attempting to speak. The person’s voice may sound strained, tight, strangled, whispery, or breathy. It is estimated that SD affects approximately 50,000 people in North America. SD symptoms can appear at any time in a person’s life, but most often present at middle-age. The disorder affects women more often than men. Certain sub-types of SD respond well to treatment with Botox injections administered by an Otolaryngologist or Laryngologist. For more information visit the National Spasmodic Dysphonia Association website: https://www.dysphonia.org/.
