About chef Jonathan Gosvener
Originating from California’s central valley, Jonathan Gosvener started his culinary career at the age of 17 when he attended and graduated from the California School of Culinary Arts in Pasadena, CA. During that time he gained valuable experience working with Wolfgang Puck Catering in Hollywood as well as assisting in the 2005 Golden Globe Awards and the 2006 Academy Awards. Upon completion of his formal culinary education in 2006, he relocated to Seattle, Washington to complete his externship at a top rated fine dining restaurant called Canlis.
Upon completion of his externship; Jonathan made the decision to move back to California and open a café in his hometown. During his time there, he had the opportunity to do multiple cooking demos in the area. His first televised cooking demonstration was on a local morning talk show in Fresno called Great Day. He demoed his own signature dishes such as his seasonal berry salad w/ raspberry vinaigrette, garlic & vermouth sautéed prawns & his carmalized banana split.
A year and a half into the successful opening of Plaza Café; Jonathan was offered the Executive Chef position in an up and coming steakhouse developing the menu and staff. After a successful open in 2009; Jonathan was offered an opportunity to open a casino fine dining steakhouse called The River Steakhouse. Jonathan gained valuable experience creating menus and developing standards geared to the local demographics. He was the chef to multiple celebrities the casino would book such as Leann Rhimes and Randy Travis. He also made multiple guest appearances on a Bakersfield based Radio talk show.
While managing the steakhouse, Jonathan took on a second job working with at risk students at Tulare Union High School; the same high school he graduated from in 2005. He instructed an after school program teaching students the basics of culinary arts: “The best thing about working at the high school was being able to see those students graduate and pursue a culinary career.”
In early 2011, Jonathan reconnected with a friend in San Jose, CA. She told him about a great opportunity to help open a brand new state of the art corporate kitchen for Apple, Inc and he jumped on the opportunity to work with the corporate giant. Upon expiration of Jonathan’s contract with Apple, Jonathan decided that he wanted to stay in the bay area and he took a Sous Chef position with Spartan Shops at San Jose State in late 2011. Jonathan is glad to say that he considers the bay area home and is very excited to see what Spartan Shops has in store for him.
