Description

VSA Texas and Body Shift are excited to announce, that with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, we will host Stephan Koplowitz, award-winning director/choreographer/media artist, to devise a site specific work for dancers of all abilities at centrally located Sparky Park, 3701 Grooms Street, Austin, TX 78705.

The Sparky Park project is a short-term creative laboratory and introduction to site specific work which will engage the community of local performers
with music, under the direction of composer Richard Hall and costumes by E.L. Hohn. Sparky Park, site of a former electric substation, was created through the efforts and vision of neighbors with support from Art in Public Places. Lovely old trees and a unique public art wall make this pocket park a true Austin treasure. We will have free public presentations of our devising research on Saturday, September 23rd at 3pm and 5pm and Sunday, September 24th at 1:30pm. Space is limited so reservations are required.
Call 512-454-9912 or email
lynn@vsatx.org

Parking around the park is limited. There is free parking available three blocks away in the back parking lot of the AGE Building (Austin Groups for the Elderly), 3710 Cedar St., Austin, TX 78705.

Stephan Koplowitz is an award winning director/choreographer/media artist known for his work on stage, film and site. Since 1984 he has created 87 works and has been awarded 60 commissions performed in the US, Europe and Asia. His work aims to alter people’s perspectives of place, site, and scale, all infused with a sense of the human condition. He is concerned with the intersection of natural, social and cultural ecologies within urban and natural environments. Koplowitz wants to respond to our growing obsession with digital/virtual space by working directly on the divide between analog and digital domains. His creations of original works for public spaces, both urban and environmental, aim to allow communities to discover and rediscover the knowns and unknowns of their own town square.
