Sparking Change Report Launch
Mon, February 13, 2017, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM EST
Join us for the launch of Park People's newest report, Sparking Change: Cataylzing the Social Impacts of Parks in Underserved Communities.
The report explores the social impacts that result when communities in underserved neighbourhoods get involved in animating and improving local parks, and identifies common strategies taken by both community members and partner organizations to support this work.
Parks are not simply green places of respite with grass and trees—they are critical pieces of the social infrastructure of our cities. At a time when increasing attention is being paid to the growing inequality of our cities and neighbourhood-based inequities, it’s critical that we examine how engaging in our parks and public spaces can create more inclusive, equitable places that are shaped by and for the people living there.
Following a short presentation of the report will be a discussion moderated by Jake Tobin Garrett, Manager of Policy and Research at Park People.
- Minaz Asani-Kanji, Outreach Manager, Park People
- Juneeja Varghese, Neighbourhoods Manager, United Way Toronto and York Region
- Zahrah Munas, Former Community Animator, Friends of Regent Park
- Angie Buado, Volunteer, Friends of Earl Bales Park
Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
Sparking Change was made possible through generous funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
