SPANISH - Foundation of Diabetes Management

This is a four week course, meeting once per week for two hours each time.
Diabetes is rapidly becoming one of the leading health issues in America, and in Ector County. This disease can cause many challenges in a person’s life, including hospitalization, if it is not managed effectively. The Foundation of Diabetes Management course is designed to give the Diabetic, Pre-Diabetic, and At-Risk of Diabetes person the tools they need to manage their disease with knowledge and confidence.
PREREQUISITE (We will contact you after registration to complete prior to the course.): As a participant in the course, you will receive a complimentary blood analysis showing: Cholesterol, Triglycerides, HDL, LDL, Thyroid, A1c, and PSA (for men). You will also have a private, individual meeting with your Diabetes Lifestyle Coach to discuss your goals and concerns, medication use, or insulin management. You will also receive the opportunity to meet with a Registered Dietician, once the course is complete, who can review the skills you’ve learned in the course and discuss any challenges you are experiencing putting them into practice.
Foundation of Diabetes Management teaches the 7 Self-Care Behaviors, developed by the American Association of Diabetes Educators, a diabetic needs to have to manage their disease well. These are: Reducing Risk, Monitoring, Taking Medication, Healthy Coping, Healthy Eating, Problem Solving, and Being Active.
Come join us! You will receive a course book and tracking tools as part of this class. You are welcome to bring a member of your personal support group to participate with you. This is a lively course with lots of opportunity for conversation and interactive discussion, it is not a lecture! We start where you are in your understanding of this disease and how to manage it.

Location: This class is located in the West Campus Auditorium. Please enter in the West Campus side doors off of 5th Street and take a right immediately. The West Auditorium will be on your right. If you choose to come in the main doors of the West Campus, please continue straight down the main hallway until the end and take a left, it will be on your right.
Parking: You can park in the parking lot to the South of hospital or to the North of the West Campus. These lots are clearly labeled with ORMC Parking signs. Do not park on private parking lots of other physician offices, proper signage is posted and they could tow your vehicle.
