Description

SPACEVISION 2019 EXPLORATION: A Human Imperative

The SpaceVision conference is almost as old as its organization, Students for the Exploration and Development of space (SEDS). It focuses on bringing together students of many disciplines from all corners of the country to celebrate their shared passion for all things space. Building on the tradition started in 1989 amongst the first SEDS chapters, this gathering includes panels of industry leaders, technical project competitions, and opportunities for our members to engage with current professionals from across the space sector. The growth of the conference in recent years parallels SEDS’ own remarkable expansion while preserving the original focus on creating student connections and empowering everyone to pursue a future in space.

Join hundreds of passionate young professionals for the annual national conference of SEDS. The conference is organized and run entirely by students and will run through November 7th - November 10th, 2019. SpaceVision 2019 will be held at Arizona State University's main campus in Tempe, AZ.

Each year university chapters compete for the honor of hosting SpaceVision and are selected by the council of chapters. Submitted proposals include initial plans, potential guests, and an overall theme that highlights the university chapter. SEDS SpaceVision 2019 will be co-hosted by the two SEDS-USA Chapters at Arizona State University: SEDS-ASU and SEDS-ASU Rocketry Division.

SEDS-ASU:

SEDS-ASU is a chapter of SEDS-USA and was the first chapter founded at Arizona State University. Our goals include bringing leadership opportunities to our members, developing a community rooted in a common love for space, and providing opportunities to all students to develop professional skills related to their interests and also broaden their skillset. Our members have participated in high-powered rocketry, microgravity experiments, high-altitude weather balloon experiments, and continue to develop hands-on skills through other projects.

SEDS-ASU offers trips for our members to both local and out-of-state companies that cover a wide range of interests relating to space, as well as, offers opportunities to participate in STEM outreach, speaking to over 2,000 members of the general public throughout the year.

We make it a part of our goal to get people across all disciplines involved, so no matter your background, you’re invited to be a part of our community!

SEDS-ASU Rocketry Division:

SEDS-ASU Rocketry Division is a chapter of the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) and was founded in 2017 with a group of six students from Arizona State University who shared the same passion for rocketry and space exploration. This organization is dedicated to engaging students with complex engineering challenges and competitions to prepare students for industry and graduate school. SEDS-ASU Rocketry Division has established a reputation for high quality rockets and students with a strong focus on safety and reliability. We compete in the SEDS-USA University Student Rocketry Competition and the Experimental Sounding Rocket Associations (ESRA) Spaceport America Cup. In addition to this we are participating in the SEDS SAT-2 competition and actively conducting liquid propellant research for the 2020 ESRA Spaceport America Cup.

We enjoy outreach activities as well and frequently participate in the School for Earth and Space Exploration's Open House and ASU's Night of the Open Door. Currently, we are mentoring newly formed local high school SEDS Chapter and guiding their organization towards success.
