Event Details

As a part of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) continuing effort to promote Federal hiring in areas most adversely affected by current economic conditions, OPM is supporting the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in its efforts to assist aerospace workers impacted by the ending of the Space Shuttle program.  OPM will provde hands-on training, coordinate with participating Agencies, and pay the logistics costs for conducting the Job Fair.  Agencies will be expected to pay the individual expenses of the staff participants.

The Space Coast Job Fair and Hands-On Training Event will be held at the Raddison Resort at the Port in Cape Canaveral, Florida on July 26th from 9am - 5pm.

The targeted candidate pool consists of over 6,000 non-civil servant contractors that were employed by various small and large companies supporting the Nation's Space Program.  The workforce has the following skill sets:

  • Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Electronic, Computer, Mechanical, Systems, Environmental)
  • Information Technology (e.g., Systems, Software, Programming)
  • Analysis (e.g., Risk Management, Program/Project Management Quality Assurance)
  • Technical (e.g., Electricians, Engineering/Electronics/Mechanical Technicians, Transportation Specialists, Safety Specialists, Trades)
  • Administrative (e.g., Security, Contracting, Logistics, Human Resources, Budget)

Actvities supported during the Job Fair in Cocoa, Florida:

  • Education and awareness of the types of positions available at Federal Agencies
  • Training to effectively use USAJOBS.gov to find and apply for Federal positions
  • Assistance in applying for current or future open Federal positions

As part of the Job Fair in July, Agencies may choose to use special appointing authorities including:

  • Government and Agency specific authorities
  • Schedule A
  • Veteran’s Hiring Authorities (VRA, 30%> disabled, VEOA)
  • Former Peace Corps Volunteer Authority

In addition, NASA has created a website (www.jobsforaerospaceworkers.com) whereby Federal agencies can register, post jobs, and find additional information about the skills of the available workforce.  The details associated with filling positions (e.g., job postings, on-site interviews at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC)) will be coordinated between the hiring officials at each agency and the NASA human resources (HR) team at the KSC. If your agency would like to post jobs please telephone or email one of NASA’s contacts: Zahyra Lebron, 321-867-3804 or Josephine Pereira, 321-867-4259; email KSC-HR-JOBFAIR@mail.nasa.gov
