Event description

Description

The Southwark Planning Network links community groups and individuals across the borough who take an active interest in planning matters in their neighbourhood and who share and support each other with information and experiences of the planning system.

NEW SOUTHWARK PLAN (NSP)

This meeting is an important chance to learn more about making borough planning policy. The New Southwark Plan (NSP) which is now out for consultation will set the policy for all planning decisions for the next 15 years or so until the 2030s.

The Council's final draft called the Submission Version is Appendix A in the list of documents here: NSP - http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgAi.aspx?ID=47177#mgDocuments

You could look at the text for the policies you may have an interest in and see if you have any concerns or objections. All the development sites are shown after the policies. You should read through what is said on each page for each of the sites in your area, and consider if you and/or your group want to object to any aspect of any of them.

MAKING REPRESENTATIONS

It is possible still to have an effect on this. But to have a voice, it is essential that you make your 'representations' in writing in a particular form, called using the test of 'soundness'. This is explained by the Council in pages 3 & 4 of the NSP http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgAi.aspx?ID=47177#mgDocuments . The SPN meeting will take us through this, looking at some of the policies in the NSP and how they could be said to fail the test of soundness, and how to write your own representations on the policies and development sites you have concerns about.

THE SPN AGENDA

We have extended the time for the meeting to understand this different process which is vital preparation for the Public Hearings in 2018. The doors will open at 6.15pm, for a prompt start at 6.30pm and close at 9.30pm. We will have two visiting council officers to speak in the first part on the NSP and on the Council's new strategy on Social Regeneration included in the NSP for the first time.

The second part of the meeting will be a workshop on the issues raised by the NSP and how to make representations on them. To prepare for this we recommend that you or/and your group begin to identify concerns you may have about any of the policies, and about any development sites in your neighbourhood. We will be circulating in advance some short briefing notes about the policies as an aid. But do start your reading now. If you can't print the NSP text or read it on the screen you can email

Philip.Waters@southwark.gov.uk

and request a copy for you to pick up at the Council Tooley Street reception desk.
