Event Details

Description:  This FREE training workshop will focus on regional approaches to carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) surveillance and response. Sessions will highlight CRE prevention and antimicrobial stewardship initiatives, laboratory detection methods, XDRO registry developments and statewide surveillance, and case studies.

Target audience:  Individuals involved in infection prevention at acute or long-term care facilities (e.g., infection preventionists; directors of nursing; infectious disease, primary care, and specialty care physicians; hospital epidemiologists; and pharmacists), microbiologists and laboratorians, and health department staff.  

Continuing education will be provided for physicians, nurses, and lab professionals.

CME Accreditation: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine, Downstate Illinois Partnership Against Antibiotic Resistance, and Illinois Department of Public Health. The SIU School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation: This activity has been approved for 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity

Nursing:  SIU School of Medicine is preapproved as a continuing nursing education provider pursuant to Section 1300.130, subsection c), 1), B) and P) of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation Nurse Practice Act. Nurses may receive 5.5 contact hours for completing this activity.

Lab:  The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science–Illinois (ASCLS-IL) is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. ® Program. A maximum of 5.5 continuing education hours is available for this activity.
