We invite you to attend the Southeastern Connecticut Clean Coastal Harbors and Bays Planning Workshop.

About this Event

The Nature Conservancy in Connecticut, Clean Up Sound and Harbors (CUSH) and Mystic Aquarium invite you to attend the Southeastern Connecticut Clean Coastal Harbors and Bays Planning Workshop.

Southeastern Connecticut’s coastal waters are vital for a strong economy based on boating, fishing and delicious seafood, yet nitrogen pollution from wastewater and fertilizers and contamination from untreated sewage threaten the health of rivers, harbors and bays and put community well-being at risk. Despite improvements in Long Island Sound’s open waters, coastal water ways like the Mystic River and Little Narragansett Bay suffer from low oxygen, harmful algal blooms, nuisance seaweeds and devastating loss of seagrass habitat. Bacteria from old and leaky water systems can make shellfish unsafe, cause beach closures and put human health at risk, while new challenges from climate change and sea level rise are emerging.

Proven solutions to address these water challenges exist, and everyone has a role to play. Join your fellow community leaders, local, state and regional water managers, scientists and business owners to explore and prioritize approaches that restore healthy conditions, strengthen the economy and safeguard clean coastal water in Southeastern Connecticut for generations to come.

This workshop is made possible by support from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s Long Island Sound Futures Fund.

There is no cost to attend the event, but space is limited to 50 attendees and registration by Wednesday, October 9th is mandatory. Please click on the button (above, right) to register today!
