From The Inkwell series

Durham, NC

The Inkwell series by Southbound artist Titus Books Heagins documents the owners, patrons, and onlookers at a tattoo parlor in Durham. The parlor acts as common ground for customers who otherwise might not associate with one another, as black, brown, and white bodies find their way to the shop to make permanent their emotions, desires, losses, and challenges. Heagins has three photographs in the exhibit at the Power Plant Gallery.

Southbound: Photographs of and about the New South was organized by the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston School of the Art. The exhibit is on view at the Power Plant Gallery from September 6-December 21, 2019 and at the Gregg Museum of Art & Design from September 5-December 29, 2019.
